EC7 Geotechnical Design
Geotechnical Category 1 & 2 checks to Eurocode 7 — with partial factors, combinations and clause references shown for every step, so the tool doubles as a learning aid for DA1/DA2/DA3.
In Development
Design Approach 1
Two combinations (C1: A1+M1+R1, C2: A2+M2+R1). UK/IE default for buildings.
Design Approach 2
Single combination (A1+M1+R2). Common in DE, PL. Resistance factors on capacity.
Design Approach 3
(A1 or A2)+M2+R3. Structural actions factored, material properties factored.
Planned Scope
Each module will let the user pick DA1/DA2/DA3 (with the appropriate partial-factor sets from Annex A) and will output the governing combination, characteristic and design capacities, and utilisation.
Shallow foundation — bearing resistance
Drained (φ′, c′) and undrained (cu) bearing capacity from Annex D. Shape, depth and inclination factors. Effective width B′ for eccentric loading.
Shallow foundation — sliding & overturning
HEd ≤ Rd + Rp,d for sliding; eccentricity limits e/B for overturning; middle-third check for uncracked base pressure.
Settlement
Immediate settlement from elastic theory and long-term consolidation. Total and differential settlement limits from §2.4.9.
Gravity retaining wall
Active earth pressure (Rankine/Coulomb), water pressure, surcharge. Base sliding, bearing, overturning; wall-stem R/C design links to the EC2 tool.
Cantilever pile / short pile capacity
Axial pile capacity from static formulae (α, β and Nq methods) with model factor γRd per NA. Lateral resistance from p-y or Broms.
Slope stability (planar & circular)
Bishop's simplified method for circular slips, infinite-slope for planar cases. Effective vs total stress analysis.
